Skincare,

How I Fixed My Skin After Quitting Birth-Control

Hey guys! I know it’s been FOREVER since my last skin care post, but I’ve been searching high and low to find the best skin care routine to get my skin back on track.

Growing up, I never had bad skin so when I started breaking out, I really started to freak out because it was something so new to me. My acne really started to flare up back in January when I decided to get off of birth control. I guess my body was just so used to being on the birth control and controlling my hormones for the past ten years, that when I decided to change that, my body sort of freaked out on me.

This might sound super dramatic, but from then till about a month ago-when I finally found a routine that worked for me, I hated leaving my apartment. I felt so embarrassed and thought that whenever I would be walking around, everyone would be staring at the breakouts all over my face. Working would be especially hard. As a blogger, I constantly need to take photos of myself to keep up with all of you guys, but when you don’t feel confident, that could be really difficult.   Obviously, I wanted to cover everything up with makeup, but I knew that that would only make it so much worse. And truthfully, makeup just doesn’t look that great when you don’t have a good base to work with.

About 2 months ago, I went out on a mission to find the products that worked well for my skin. I especially want to put it out there, that the products that I first started using aren’t necessarily the same products I use today. I learned that you have to be extremely patient and go through trial and error to find exactly what products and what routine your skin would like the best.

So, let’s get down to business!

Natura Bisse Oxygen Mousse ($55) I use this cleanser every single morning! I swear it’s the only thing that makes my skin feel refreshed and ready for the day. This cleanser is PERFECT for oily skin and I’ve definitely been realizing a difference in my pores, they literally get smaller every day.

Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash ($80 for the supersize!) At night, I prefer to use something that will exfoliate my skin to get all the gunk from the day off of my face. I’ve found that this cleanser is the only exfoliating face wash that is gentle enough on my skin, but still gets rid of any dead skin cells that might have built up on my skin. The best part? I literally glow after I use it.

Caudalie Vinopure Toner ( $ 28) After I wash my face, I immediately apply this with a cotton round. This is definitely an important step in my routine because it’s the last step in ensuring that my skin is squeaky clean and ready for the rest of the products that I will be using on my face. Huge plus: it has salicylic acid which is amazing for drying out breakouts.

Caudalie Vinopure Moisturizer ($ 39) If you’re a combo girl like me, you’ll absolutely fall in love with this moisturizer. Yes, you read that correctly, it’s a mattifying moisturizing. I swear this stuff is magic. When my skin gets oily in the summer, I get so scared to add moisturizer. Why would I want more moisture? My skin is basically hydrating itself with oil. WRONG! You need a moisturizer to balance out the oils. Your skin basically thinks it’s not hydrated enough, so it produces more oil to ensure that its healthy. The thirst is realllll ladies! This moisturizer absorbs the excess oil while keeping the skin nice and calm. It’s also super-duper light so it’s great under makeup!

Caudalie Vinopure Serum ($ 49) At night, I love to apply stronger products, so it could work its best and obviously ensure that my skin is nice and clean since I’m in bed. I make sure to apply this serum every other night. It’s like fairy liquid and unclogs my pores, which basically makes all those gross blackheads go away. Never wake up to new breakouts since I’ve been using this magic serum.

Dr. Dennis Gross Daily Peel (prices varies on size, this is a 5 piece for $17) On the nights that I’m not using the Caudalie Serum, I use these pads. You’re never too young to start worrying about wrinkles. I don’t know about all of you, but I definitely rather start preventing them now, rather than having to worry about treating them once they appear. There are two steps when it comes to using these pads. Step 1 has exfoliating acids that help rejuvenate the skin and preps your skin for step 2. I usually wait about 2-3 minutes before going in with the second wipe. Step 2 is targeted more towards keeping the skin balanced, smooth and most importantly glowy!!

Natura Bisse Diamond Glyco Peel ($270) I try to use this peel about twice a week when I’m not using the Caudalie Serum or the Dr. Dennis Gross Peel. Don’t kill me! I know it’s expensive! But when it comes to my skin I like to splurge on the best products I could find. The peeling action in this gel really helps to fade any dark spots that my blemishes left behind and also helps prevent future blemishes. I’ve also noticed that when I wake up in the morning, after using this product, my skin looks like I just had Botox. I swear it looks as if I’ve had a full-on face lift overnight! If you’re going to use this product, PLEASE do not forget to apply sunscreen the day after you use it. I definitely recommend using a sunscreen in general, but especially after using this gel since your skin will be a bit more sensitive to sunlight.

Dr. Dennis Gross All Over Blemish Solution ($ 42) Honestly, I use this whenever I get a pimple. I know you’re supposed to use it all over your face, but I have very specific areas that need targeting so I apply as a spot treatment.  Since its clear, you could even apply it during the day when you’re running around doing errands. My breakouts start going away after 2-3 days of using this. It’s amazing for those stubborn pimples that just don’t seem to go away on their own. PS the texture of this is amazing.

Beauty Bio Glow Pro ($199) Okay so this tool sounds a lot scarier than it actually is. It’s basically an at home microneedling treatment. Obviously, it’s not as intense as microneedling that you get done at a dermatologist office, but it gives you the same results. I like to use this every other day, either in the morning or night. I find myself using this for a few minutes while I’m chilling binge watching Young and Hungry. Off topic, but totally recommend watching it! Anyways, back to this cool little machine. I’ve been using it for about 2 months now and started to notice how much firmer my skin looks. It’s amazing and definitely saves you not only money but also the downtime you would need to take if you had this done at a dermatologist!

Ahh that’s all folks! I’m so glad I finally put this together. I’m sorry it took so long but my skin hasn’t been getting better and I wanted to perfect my skin care regimen before sharing. I have been using all of these for over a month and see such a big difference. Always check my insta stories for daily skin updates. Right now my skin is totally clear just have some red spots from prior breakouts that hopefully will disappear before NYFW next week!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask away! xoxo
